Haftar’s militias lay hands on 14 oil fields in Marada and Zilla basins

18.05.2016

Civilian and military sources from Al-Jufra city reported that militias affiliated with Khalifa Haftar have controlled almost 14 oil fields in Marada and Zilla basins up until today.
Commander of Tagreft brigade in Al-Jufra, Abdelrahman Basheer, told Al-Nabaa TV that Haftar’s militias are using those oil fields as positions for their forces, pointing out that those forces include fighters from the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement and Gaddafi loyalists.
Most of the oil fields have been controlled by Haftar’s militias; they are now void of employees and workers.” He said, adding that the brigade forces are now busy fighting IS militants, saying that he doubts that Haftar’s militias would be able to enter Al-Jufra city.
Meanwhile, Libya Shield forces, which are positioned in Al-Jufra and clashed with Haftar’s militias last week, are now part of the forces under the command of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos military operation, which is advancing to free Sirte and its outlying areas from IS militants.
Earlier this week, some activists on social media spread leaked emails for Haftar’s fighters confirming that his militias that headed west were not intending to attack Sirte but to control Al-Jufra military base and use it as a start point for attacks on Misrata and other cities farther ahead if needed, according to the leaks.
